Towards emotional, sustainable luxury

In a world where consumption is accelerating and trends follow one another at breakneck speed, an essential question is emerging: what is true luxury today? Is it a question of price, of brand, or is it a deeper quest for authenticity, transmission and connection with people and nature?

In this article, we propose to explore the idea that authenticity, time and emotion are redefining the notion of luxury today.

Authenticity as the essence of true luxury

A return to noble materials and traditional know-how

Mass-produced goods, often made in Asia from synthetic materials, have invaded interiors to the point of making our homes impersonal. In contrast, authentic luxury is characterized by the choice of natural, sustainable materials, carefully crafted by passionate artisans.

At Midipy, this is reflected in the use of genuine leather and natural wool, crafted in French workshops. These raw materials are not only resistant, but also develop a patina over time, as with leather, revealing their unique and personal character.

Meaningful craftsmanship

Daniel and I (Eloïse) were impressed by the handicrafts we discovered on our trip, such as vegetable dyeing of cotton in Laos and alpaca wool weaving in South America.

Behind each handcrafted object is a story, a transmission of know-how from generation to generation.

By promoting these meticulous manufacturing processes, we are putting manual labor and precision back at the heart of our business, values that are all too often sacrificed today on the altar of industrial productivity.

Time, a forgotten luxury

Why true luxury isn’t rushed

  • You can’t choose a precious object on the spur of the moment: you have to appreciate it and think about it.
  • Handcrafting takes time, patience and care. Each piece is unique and lovingly crafted.
  • Owning an object that lasts for decades is far more gratifying than buying an ephemeral product that will be quickly replaced.

How do you recognize a timeless object?

  • Made from natural, noble materials (leather, wool, solid wood).
  • Its design is sober and elegant, far removed from passing trends.
  • It is repairable and gains in beauty over time.
  • It provides an emotion, a strong attachment, sometimes linked to a memory.

The emotion conveyed by objects

Objects as witnesses to our lives

A woollen blanket on a sofa, a leather pocket where we keep our keys every day, a place mat we use for every meal: these objects are not just decorative elements. They are everyday companions, silent witnesses to our habits and memories.

At Midipy, each piece is designed to be much more than a simple accessory. It’s an object that lives, that tells a story and that travels with us through time.

Towards more conscious, emotional consumption

Luxury is not a question of possession, but of transmission, authenticity and emotion. Through Midipy, we offer an alternative to fast-decoration by proposing objects with soul and history.

By choosing carefully crafted pieces, taking the time to appreciate them and giving them a real place in our lives, we’re redefining our relationship with objects and consumption. What if true luxury were simply about giving time back to beautiful things?
