Genuine leather, also known as full-grain leather, is a natural material derived from animal skin. It is robust, durable and develops a beautiful patina over time. PU (polyurethane), on the other hand, is a synthetic leather made from plastic. It has neither the hold, feel nor longevity of genuine leather.
At Midipy, we only use high-quality genuine leather from renowned German tanneries.
Most of our leather comes fromGermany, a country particularly renowned for its top-of-the-range vegetable-tanned hides.
The leather is selected for its high quality, suppleness and consistency. It is then vegetable-tanned, without chromium or harmful substances, to respect health, nature and the craftsmen who work it.
The vegetable tanning is an age-old process using plant, bark and leaf extracts to transform hides into leather. Unlike chrome tanning, it takes longer, but is more environmentally friendly and allows the leather to age better.
Yes, vegetable leather tolerates moderate heat very well. It can be used to support hot plates or dishes, but it’s best to avoid prolonged sources of direct heat (such as a hot stove).
